Symptoms of fever alert

Days ago we talked about how to measure baby fever and on some other occasion we have indicated what to do when the baby has a fever, now we will focus on what are the symptoms of fever alert.

Fever is a defense mechanism of the organism, most of the time in response to an infection of viral origin. It usually lasts two to three days with temperatures between 38º and 40º.

In these cases we have to try to lower the body temperature (fresh environment, baths, anti-thermal), offer plenty of fluids and as the fever has come it usually leaves without a trace.

But in any case we should not lower our guard.

You should see a doctor if:

  • The child is very affected, just wants to sleep, vomits or complains of a headache
  • It has less than three months
  • The temperature exceeds 40º, especially if it is a child under 2 years old
  • Have trouble urinating
  • He has been feverish for four days
  • Suffer from some chronic disease (congenital malformation, immunodeficiency, etc.)
  • Have a history of febrile seizures

In addition to these, there are more severe symptoms to which you should see a doctor immediately how:

  • The baby cries inconsolably
  • It presents an important decay
  • Have a febrile seizure
  • Red spots appear progressively on the body that do not disappear when stretching the skin
  • It has stiffness
  • Breathe hard
