More than 550,000 children have been victims of trafficking in Latin America and the Caribbean

The members of the musical group Calle 13 - winner of 19 Latin Grammy and 2 American Grammy awards -: René Pérez Joglar (Resident) and Eduardo Cabra Martínez (Visitor), participated yesterday at Casa América in a meeting with young people, organized by UNICEF Spain , with those who talked about exploitation and trafficking in persons.

During the meeting, the documentary Invisible Slaves, narrated by Resident and Visitor, was shown, showing how this problem affects adolescents and young people who have been victims of trafficking networks, or who have been subjected to situations of slavery, sexual exploitation and drug use in Latin America.

It is estimated that more than 550,000 children have been victims of trafficking in Latin America and the Caribbean. Many of them are at risk of being exposed to dangerous sexual practices and possible drug use, which increases the risk of contracting HIV / AIDS. 'Almost no country in the world gets rid of human trafficking,' said René Pérez, during a panel discussion held after the screening, in which Marta Arias, Director of Child Awareness and Policies of UNICEF Spain also participated, and Rocío Mora, Coordinator of the Association for the Prevention, Reintegration and Care of Prostituted Women (APRAMP).

Spain is a country of transit and destination of child victims of trafficking, who need detection, identification and protection through specialized programs that offer comprehensive care to achieve their full recovery

This initiative of UNICEF and Calle 13 is part of the MTV EXIT campaign, which is carried out throughout Latin America, and which aims to raise awareness about this problem through the mass dissemination of messages against trafficking and exploitation, in addition to organizing activities with children, adolescents and young people.

I affirm during the act Eduardo Cabra (and I agree with him) that 'it is the responsibility of the whole society fight this scourge that affects millions of children around the world, and that causes irreparable damage that will drag your whole life. '
