In vitro babies, taller than those of natural pregnancy

New studies come out every day that reveal curiosities about babies and their way of coming into the world. Today we know the news that Babies born by in vitro fertilization are higher than those born by natural pregnancy.

The discovery has been made by a team of researchers from the Liggins Institute of the University of Auckland, which found in 200 cases that small conceived from in vitro embryos (not frozen) are on average 2.6 centimeters taller than the others when they turn six years old.

The difference is significant, especially in the case of girls, even when hereditary variables such as the height of the parents were taken into account.

The cause is not known for sure, they will have to follow the investigations in this line, but two hypotheses are considered.

The first, because the hormonal profile of babies born by in vitro fertilization is different, possibly because of the drugs taken by the mother to stimulate ovulation or prepare the matrix for implantation.

The second, that is a product of the selection made by doctors when choosing larger embryos so that they have more chances of survival.

For whatever reason, and although a more conclusive study would be needed, that Babies born by in vitro fertilization are likely to be taller than naturally conceived children It is quite striking.
