Exercise in pregnancy: yoga

Pregnancy is an extraordinary process in a woman's life and full of physiological, anatomical and emotional changes. We have already commented that it reduces stress, rejuvenates women and even positively changes the brain. And it is also the moment when one becomes more intuitive, sensitive, open and receptive. Nature has arranged it that way.

It is a pity that the current frantic pace also affects pregnant women preventing them from enjoying this magical period and all its benefits.

But fortunately there is an ancient technique that allows us to improve physically as well as relax and become aware of all the messages of pregnancy: yoga.

Yoga means union. Is there another time in life when we are more united to another living being? In these 9 months we are two bodies, two minds, two hearts and two souls. We eat the same, we breathe the same, we think the same and we already know that what the mother feels also affects the baby.

What are some of the multiple benefits of yoga in pregnancy?

  • Improves body posture and helps prevent backaches such as sciatica and disorders such as hemorrhoids and vomiting
  • It helps reduce the pressure and weight of pregnancy. Many women say they leave the classes full of energy and sleep better than ever
  • It helps eliminate the feeling of fatigue, nervous tension and ensures the fetus a increased oxygenation
  • Increases awareness of the pelvic floor and perineum toning the sphincters and also the opening and flexibility of the pelvis with the different postures / asanas
  • It helps to gain security and tranquility in front of the moment of delivery. The perfect birth cannot be guaranteed, but with yoga the woman can be more aware of the moment and not be overcome by irrational fear
  • And above all, it's a moment of unique connection between mother and baby. Through breathing the woman connects with her own body, but also with her baby, who rocks rhythmically with each respiratory cycle

During the first quarter the start of any new activity is not recommended because it is an extremely delicate moment. But if yoga has already been practiced in the months before pregnancy and the woman is well, there is no reason to interrupt the practice of yoga. In any case it is better to consult with a professional and with the doctor.

The postures that compress the belly are always avoided, it is recommended not to force the body and that each position is carried out comfortably.

Therefore, with yoga and with the exercises that we have recommended to connect with the baby and increase our creativity in pregnancy, we can turn these months into a great period of personal enrichment that surely our son thanks us very much. So much that then we will have to practice yoga-baby with him / her.
