Incredible but true, The need for pediatricians in our country is evident but no serious and real effort is made to solve or at least improve the situation. The example is in the Community of Madrid, there is a lack of pediatricians, there are 20 vacancies in the 350 health centers that the region has, they have to be filled to mitigate this lack, but the Ministry of Health has only managed to incorporate two specialists, the other 18 places remain vacant.
It is not a problem at the regional level, it is a problem at the national level. As in everything, there are two points of view, the one offered by the Madrid Association of Pediatrics in Primary Care, indicating that health offers very bad working conditions and therefore specialists prefer to work in the private sector or in provinces whose work does not occupy them. most of the time, or what others indicate, that it is necessary to increase the training places in order to cover the current demand. An added problem is that when new professionals are incorporated, others leave, so that the problem is never solved. There is no doubt that a change in the field of child health is necessary, because to this problem we can add, for example, the lack of qualified staff and other necessary specialties, such as the case of juvenile child psychiatry, despite that the creation of the specialty has been claimed for some years, there is only one project and it seems that nobody moves a finger to make it happen.
In short, children's pediatrics, rather, the professionals who practice this profession, are not very happy with the treatment that Spanish Health gives them, but those who suffer the consequences are ourselves, parents and especially children. If there is a lack of means, to put more, if it is necessary to increase the training places, to do so, actions are necessary now. We must not let the situation get worse and we do not have to resort to private health so that they visit our child having the Social Security that every worker pays monthly.
Already at the beginning of last year we talked about this situation and about the need for pediatricians in our country. A year has passed and everything remains the same, the solution of resorting to professionals from other countries that we cited then is unfeasible, since as we have said before each new incorporation happens an abandonment of place.
