What a child costs

According to a report presented yesterday by the Spanish Confederation of Organizations of Housewives, Consumers and Users (Ceaccu), a son, from birth to 18, represents an expense that ranges between 98,205 and 301,274 euros, depending on the purchasing power of the family.

The report called “What a child costs”, Includes all the expenses that occur throughout its first 18 years, food, hygiene, clothing and footwear, toys, education, health and even extras, being the most expensive periods from birth to three years and from 15 to 18 years.

But the expenses have not always been so high, in the last six years they have shot up between 25 and 56%. The change from the peseta to the euro, the rise of technology among children and young people, the taste for brands, etc., have been the trigger for this increase compared to the first study conducted in the year 2000. Surely parents have a lot to do. Education has also collaborated in this rise, private education can cost up to three times more than public education, in addition trips abroad to learn languages. But although the children are more expensive after 12 years of age, during the first three years there is less margin for savings, because the expenses are at least 7,000 euros.

The expenses really start during pregnancy, but what is better than a hug, a kiss, a smile from our son?
