Given the criticism, BioCultura A Coruña withdraws the anti-vaccine talks from its program, and we all win

That a single parent doubts the efficacy and convenience of vaccines, means that things are not being done well, and therefore everybody wins When the opposite happens.

The BioCultura ecological fair which will take place in A Coruña between March 2 and 4, included among its activities a conference organized by anti-vaccine groups. But given the criticisms received, they have finally reported that withdraw the anti-vaccine talks from their program.

After receiving numerous criticisms on social networks, including from Mayor Xulio Ferreiro himself who said he did not share the perspective of the anti-vaccination talks "which questioned the scientific rigor", the organizers announced yesterday the decision of suspend the presentations at the request of the local government:

"Following the request of the Concello da Coruña around the Day of Reflection on Systematic Vaccination (...), the BioCultura Department, responsible for the Healthy Life Association, has decided to withdraw the mentioned talks from the parallel activities of the fair of reflexion".

The talks were scheduled to be given with the title "Day of reflection on systematic vaccination" by Xavier Uriarte, who chairs the League for Freedom of Vaccination and is known for questioning the safety of certain vaccines.

For its part, from BioCultura it is stressed that "it is not against vaccination or the official medical health system. Everything that surrounds the vaccine system is very delicate and we have always been very respectful and very cautious (...). We are not against vaccines, we only want citizens to have access, first hand, to opinions different from those of the most official system "

There is no place to sow doubts

There is no doubt about vaccines, because it is a fact that they save lives by preventing, in a safe and effective way, diseases that cause death or leave serious consequences. Just sowing doubt about vaccines is irresponsible and puts many people at risk, because if we stop vaccinating, many preventable diseases could come back.

Parents who are not adequately informed and end up being convinced by the anti-vaccines can put at risk not only their own children who are left unprotected, but also the children of others. Providing verified, scientific and truthful information about vaccines is essential to raise awareness, but it is also essential avoid being questioned.
